The City of Vernon will be updating its Official Community Plan (OCP) and Transportation Master Plan (TMP) through a joint review.
The OCP lays out the community's long-term vision for growth and development, including the future identity of Vernon; while the TMP guides how the community’s transportation system — such as roads, public transit, and cycling paths — will be developed and maintained to meet both the current and future demands.
The updated plans will align with the Province’s new as well as recent regulatory updates to encourage the development of more housing, especially where transit options are available.
“The City has decided to update these plans together, recognizing the interconnectedness of community growth, development, and transportation strategies,” said Mayor Victor Cumming. “This approach will ensure that transportation infrastructure investments are directed to areas with the current and future highest population and employment density and that active, low-carbon transportation remains a critical priority.”
The public will be encouraged to participate in the review, with further details on involvement to be provided in the spring.
Updating the OCP is a key goal. The Official Community Plan and Transportation Master Plan are expected to be completed by December 2025.
