I have been a Vernon resident since 1966. I am married to Dave and we have a blended family of four children and five grandchildren. I graduated from Vernon Senior Secondary in 1969 and in 1988, as a mature student, graduated from Simon Fraser University. I have operated a family business in downtown Vernon since 1990. I believe in community service and have been involved in worthwhile organizations such as the People Place Society, Women’s Centre Society, Downtown Vernon Association and Teen Junction Literacy Society.

I served in an elected role as a School trustee in Vernon from 1996 - 2005. I was first elected to council in 2005 and am serving my third term. We have many challenges ahead and will address them through our strategic goals. Some key issues are the Master Water Plan, Master Parks Plan, and twinning of Kal Tire Place. There is also the question of future locations or expansion of the art gallery and museum. In our role as municipal leaders we deal with many issues impacting our residents. I commit to making informed decisions and working with Council and citizens alike, as we progress toward making Vernon a city we are all proud to call home.

I emigrated to Canada from Holland with my family at the age of ten. In 1977, I moved to Vernon with my husband Harry, a Vernon native. We have a fantastic daughter and two grandchildren. I’m a CGA with a long history of municipal financial experience, both at the City of Vernon and the District of Coldstream. For three years, I managed the Historic O’Keefe Ranch. My involvement with the community spans 25 years, from the Vernon Women’s Transition House, North Okanagan United Way, Boys & girls Club, Ribbons of Green Society, to the Community Foundation of the North Okanagan.

As a Council, we have our work cut out for us over the next four years. There are a lot of significant issues facing Vernon, not least of these is the growth and retention of our business community. We will be looking at some large issues, such as the twinning of Kal Tire Place and the ownership of Kin Race Track, a new location for the Art Gallery, expansion of the Museum, and how to resolve our water situation. Large projects will require good relationships with the provincial and federal governments for supportive funding. A lot of demands are placed on our tax dollars, and as a Council we will have to strike a balance between wants, needs and affordability. This is a great community, and over the next four years I want to work hard towards making it more sustainable, and an even more desirable place to live.
