Schools

School District 22 serves the Vernon area and, in 2022, had an enrolment of 9,200 students in 14 elementary schools, five secondary schools, as well as through alternate schools and virtual learning. In addition, there are several independent schools in Vernon. School District 22, in collaboration with Okanagan College, offers the Secondary School Apprenticeship (SSA) program and the Accelerated Credit Enrolment in Industry Training (ACE IT). These programs offer training in a range of trades from welding, to culinary arts, to aircraft maintenance engineering all at no cost to high school students.

Post-secondary

There are several post-secondary institutions in the Vernon area. Okanagan College has campuses in Vernon, Kelowna, Penticton and Salmon Arm. Okanagan College also operates the Airline Engineer Building at the Vernon Airport. Meanwhile, the University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO) is approximately 35 minutes south of Vernon. UBCO opened in 2005 and has a student population of almost 12,000 and a faculty of 688. UBCO campus has eight faculties and schools, including the school of engineering, the faculty of medicine and the faculty of management.
