Greater Vernon Recreation Services is seeking friendly, creative and energetic instructor(s) to join their Playschool and Preschool team. This is a part time position consisting of approximately 23 hours per week.
Reporting to the Recreation Programmer, this position provides the direction and leadership for a variety of preschool age recreation programs and activities.
- Plans program curriculum “theme”.
- Lead structured programs with a focus on active play, providing stories, crafts, songs and games
- Assist Programmer in planning a seasonal outline of program activities.
- Organizing, collect supplies, prepare supplies required in implementing activities.
- Ensuring safety of children in their activities.
- Lead and orient volunteers in providing the programs.
- Institute and enforce rules and program procedures for participants and staff.
- Ensure participant welfare during all activities
- Ensure the proper handling of first aid and emergency situations.
- Organize continual inventory and clean of equipment and supplies for programs.
- Act as a positive role model for staff and participants.
- Set up and take down equipment
- Performs and partakes in other duties and activities as required and related to the program.
Hours of Work:
Monday through Friday between the hours 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Shift days and times will vary depending on program schedules. Weekend work for special events may be required as necessary to meet the requirements of programs.
Required Education And Experience:
- Completion of Grade 12
- Recreation Leadership Training or equivalent combination of training with a minimum of 20 hours in child development, guidance, health and safety.
- Emergency First Aid
- Clear Criminal Records Check.
- Valid BC Driver's License.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
- Experience working with children in a recreational setting.
- Must be able to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
- Ability to be imaginative and flexible to ensure a fun environment for participants.
- Ability to work as an effective team member.
- Physical strength and ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Needs to be able to demonstrate initiative and perception.
Wage is $18.50
