Volleyball Ref

This position is responsible for setting up and providing volleyball equipment, refereeing and maintaining records of scheduled games for Vernon Volleyball leagues for Recreation Services.

Duties Include:

  • Referees volleyball league games

  • Sets up and take down of volleyball nets

  • Fills out a scoresheet for each game

  • Inspects program area and equipment as well as recommends maintenance and repair

  • Act as a liaison between teams and the programmer

  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Education And Experience:

  • Must be at least 15 yrs or older

  • Previous certification or sufficient experience in volleyball required

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

 

  • Knowledge of volleyball rules & Vernon volleyball regulations

  • Ability to lift 25 lbs

  • Ability to understand and work from written and oral instructions

  • Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and friendly manner.

  • Ability to get to and from gymnasiums with some mode of transportation.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

  • Volleyball referee course

  • Basic first aid

AQUA Percept Instructor (Part-Time)

Recreation Services is looking for enthusiastic individuals who are interested in instructing the Aqua Percept gym/swim program.  The Aqua Percept program offers a gym/swim experience for children who may experience difficulty participating in regular programmed physical activities.  Aqua Percept is designed for children who may experience attention deficits, perceptual motor difficulties, poor coordination and social anxieties.  The Aqua Percept program uses fun games and activities to develop agility, balance, coordination and speed. Aqua Percept also works on developing social skills that are necessary to access present and future leisure activities.  Following the 30 minute gym program, we spend a half hour in the pool, developing swimming and water safety skills.  No formal training is required, but those holding a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification or experience working with children in a gym environment is preferred.

AQUA AWARENESS Instructor (Part-Time)

Recreation Services is looking for enthusiastic individuals who are interested in assisting people with physical, sensory, or intellectual challenges in an aquatic environment.  No formal training is required but experience assisting people in an aquatic environment is preferred.

Hours of work will vary.  Majority of hours will be Monday to Friday between 9:30-3:00pm.

VOLUNTEER

Volunteering with Recreation Services is a chance to meet new friends, learn skills, and gain work experience – all in a positive, fun recreational setting.

Recreation Services provides a variety of volunteer opportunities for people of all ages.

Volunteers must be 13 years of age or older and successfully complete the application process which includes reference checks, a criminal record check and an interview.

Volunteer Opportunities

Aquatics - Qualified volunteers assist staff during swimming lessons and may provide 1:1 support for participants who require some additional help. AWSI minimum requirement.

Fitness - Volunteers assist with fitness gym safety monitoring and equipment tidy up.
General Recreation - Volunteers assist with art, basketball, hockey, soccer, skating programs and so much more. If you have an interest or passion we will work with you to find a suitable placement.

Special Events - Volunteers are an integral part of our special events. From special event nights, celebrations to swim with Santa. If you love special events, get connected.

Do you have an idea for a NEW program, send us a proposal package. Start by developing a clear vision for your program, including a title, program objectives, description, and requirements for space and equipment. When your ready with your Program Proposal Form, submit it along with your resume and any relevant certificates to the Recreation Programs department and the Vernon Recreation Centre.
