Preschool Instructor - Early Childhood Educator

Reporting to the Manager, Recreation Programs, this position provides a strategic role in the Tiny Tots Preschool staff team. Working cooperatively and collaboratively with, the Lead ECE Instructor, this position is responsible for up to twenty (20) children in a class, ensuring their safety and enjoyment of the Tiny Tots Preschool program which is comprised of arts, crafts, field trips, physical activity, etc. 

SERVICES TO BE PROVIDED:

  • Assists in planning the yearly outline of weekly “themes”;
  • Assists in planning, organizing and implementing the monthly outline of daily activities;
  • Records daily attendance and registrations; Instructs and supervises the children in their daily activities;
  • Plans and schedules special events or activities related to the program;
  • Reviews themes, field trips and special events with staff instructors;
  • Assists in writing the monthly newsletter to the children’s parents of upcoming events and changes within the program;
  • Set-up and take down of materials and equipment in the classroom/gymnasium;
  • Performs other services as required.

HOURS OF WORK:           

Monday thru Friday between the hours 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (Shift days and times will vary depending on program schedules.)

Pay:

$19.00/hr (plus $2/hr ECE Wage Enhancement, if qualified)

Required Education And Experience:

  • Completion of Grade 12;
  • Early Childhood Education Certificate;
  • Experience in a School, Playschool, Child Care or Preschool environment;
  • Emergency First Aid with CPR - updated every two years

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

  • Experience experience working with children;
  • Must be able to deal tactfully and effectively with the public;
  • Ability to be imaginative and flexible to ensure a fun environment for participants;
  • Ability to work as an effective team member;
  • Clear Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable sector;
  • Valid BC Driver's License (Class 5);
  • Physical strength and ability to lift up to 25 pounds;
  • Needs to be able to demonstrate initiative and perception;
  • Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and friendly manner.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

  • Two (2) or more years working in a Child Care or Preschool environment;
  • BCRPA High 5 Certification;
  • FMS – Fundamental Movement Skills Training

Masters Swim Coach

Vernon Recreation Services is seeking a substitute-coach for our Master’s Swim program.  We want to find an individual to join a team of enthusiastic coaches, who respectively bring their own expertise, to our adult swim fitness program.  Masters coaches are expected to work together to provide the participants with a variety of swim workouts to meet the needs of this diverse group of swimmers. 

Masters swim workouts are scheduled on:

  • Tuesday & Thursday 8:15 – 9:15 p.m.
  • Wednesday & Friday 6:30 – 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. 
  • Sunday 8:00 – 9:30 a.m. and 9:30-11:00 a.m. 

This is an excluded position with the City of Vernon, pay range is $22 - $26 / hour depending on experience. The successful applicant will be required to provide a clear criminal record check current within the year.

Volleyball Ref / Drop-in Sports Host

We are always looking for drop-in sports hosts. This position is responsible for setting up and providing volleyball, basketball, pickleball, badminton or other sport equipment, with some sports like volleyball requiring refereeing and maintaining records of scheduled games for leagues.

Duties Include:

  • Referees volleyball league games

  • Sets up and take down of equipment

  • Fills out a scoresheet or attendance logs for each activity

  • Inspects program area and equipment for safe play

  • Act as a liaison between participants and recreation services 

  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 15 yrs or older

  • Previous certification or sufficient experience in sports

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Ability to lift 25 lbs

  • Ability to understand and work from written and oral instructions

  • Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and friendly manner.

  • Ability to get to and from gymnasiums with some mode of transportation.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

  • Volleyball referee course

  • Basic first aid

Aqua Awareness Instructor (Part Time)
Recreation Services is looking for enthusiastic individuals who are interested in assisting people with physical, sensory, or intellectual challenges in an aquatic environment.  No formal training is required but experience assisting people in an aquatic environment is preferred.
Hours of work will vary.  
Example shifts could include part or all of:
Week days 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Weekdays 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Saturdays 9:30 - 1:30 p.m.
                             
Wage is $15.00 per hour

VOLUNTEER

Volunteering with Recreation Services is a chance to meet new friends, learn skills, and gain work experience – all in a positive, fun recreational setting.

Recreation Services provides a variety of volunteer opportunities for people of all ages.

Volunteers must be 13 years of age or older and successfully complete the application process which includes reference checks, a criminal record check and an interview.

Volunteer Opportunities

Aquatics - Qualified volunteers assist staff during swimming lessons and may provide 1:1 support for participants who require some additional help. AWSI minimum requirement.

Fitness - Volunteers assist with fitness gym safety monitoring and equipment tidy up.
General Recreation - Volunteers assist with art, basketball, hockey, soccer, skating programs and so much more. If you have an interest or passion we will work with you to find a suitable placement.

Special Events - Volunteers are an integral part of our special events. From special event nights, celebrations to swim with Santa. If you love special events, get connected.
