Greater Vernon Recreation Services is looking for enthusiastic individuals who are interested in coaching the Para Swimming program at the Vernon Aquatic Centre. The Para Swim program is for athletes with physical, sensory, or intellectual challenges. Coaches are required to be at minimum Trained, but preferred Certified as a Swimming Fundamentals Coach (level 1) or Water Safety Instructor.
Hours of work include, Tuesday, Thursday Friday from 4:00-5:00pm and Sundays 11:00-12:00pm.

We are looking to enrich our program offerings and fitness team. We are currently accepting applications for Fitness professionals who have certifications and experience leading fitness programs. Work hours vary depending on program and facility availability, but range between 8am and 9pm Monday to Friday. Wage varies depending on qualifications.

The ideal candidate must have experience leading group fitness classes and have the applicable fitness certifications from a recognized fitness authority. Reporting to the Recreation Programmer, this position is responsible for setting up and providing volleyball equipment, refereeing and maintaining records of scheduled games for Vernon Volleyball leagues for Recreation Services.
- Referees volleyball league games
- Sets up and take down of volleyball nets
- Fills out a scoresheet for each game
- Inspects program area and equipment as well as recommends maintenance and repair
- Act as a liaison between teams and the programmer
- Performs other duties as required.
Required Education And Experience:
- Must be at least 16 yrs or older
- Previous certification or sufficient experience in volleyball required
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
- Knowledge of volleyball rules
- Ability to lift 25 lbs
- Ability to understand and work from written and oral instructions
- Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Ability to get to and from gymnasiums with some mode of transportation.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
- Volleyball referee course
- Basic first aid

Vernon Recreation Services is seeking a Substitute Coach(s) for our Master’s Swim program. We want to find an individual to join a team of enthusiastic coaches, who respectively bring their own expertise, to our adult swim fitness program. Masters coaches are expected to work together to provide the participants with a variety of swim workouts to meet the needs of this diverse group of swimmers.
Masters swim workouts are scheduled on:
- Monday / Wednesday / Friday from 6:30 – 7:30am and 7:30 – 8:30am;
- Tuesday / Thursday 8:15 – 9:15pm;
- Sunday 8:00 – 9:30am and 9:30-11:00 am.

Volunteering with Recreation Services is a chance to meet new friends, learn skills, and gain work experience – all in a positive, fun recreational setting.
Recreation Services provides a variety of volunteer opportunities for people of all ages.
Volunteers must be 13 years of age or older and successfully complete the application process which includes reference checks, a criminal record check and an interview.
Leaders in Training (LIT) Program – An opportunity for youth between 12 and 16 years to get involved through placements in our afterschool programs. Volunteers receive valuable career training and experience in the field of recreation. Become a leader and mentor for kids in our community!
Fitness - Volunteers assist with fitness gym safety monitoring and equipment tidy up.
General Recreation - Volunteers assist with art, basketball, hockey, soccer, skating programs and so much more. If you have an interest or passion we will work with you to find a suitable placement.
Special Events - Volunteers are an integral part of our special events. From special event nights, celebrations to swim with Santa. If you love special events, get connected.
