The Rock Slope Stabilization Project continues this summer.

There will be intermittent 30-minute road closures between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday (excluding the long weekend). The closures are necessary to safely complete rock scaling and excavation work in several sections along Eastside Road.

To accommodate the seasonal bird migration and nesting period, some work originally planned for Eastside Road was deferred to the late summer.

The following construction schedule is subject to change due to the contractor’s schedule and other external factors:

    August 21-24: 9730-9734 Eastside Road
•    August 25-28: 9600 Eastside Road
•    August 29 – Sept 5: 9483 Eastside Road

The project is scheduled to be completed in late summer.

The City of Vernon thanks residents and motorists for their patience while this work is underway.

Project Summary:
Tetra Tech conducted inspections on rock slopes for the City in 2008, 2018 and 2023, and slope remediation programs were carried out at in 2010/2011, 2017, 2020 and 2022.

Crosby Road rock slope is the number one priority. To reduce the risk of rock fall from this location installation of drape mesh system was used in 2022 as a mitigation option. The 2025 project would install rock anchors at identified locations and drape mesh on the remainder of the slope.

9600, 9483, 9730 Eastside Road and 3001 block of 35 Street have been included for remediation with vegetation removal, rock scaling and rock anchors.
