The City of Vernon is activating a new brand identity following an extensive process by the Economic Development Committee. The committee’s objective was to create a bold brand message that attracts visitors and businesses to Vernon, that relates to residents, and that provides direction for local business marketing efforts. The result is the tagline “Activate Life”, which will be used as a key message in tourism, economic development and business efforts in the community.
The process began with compiling results from various surveys directed to residents and non-residents, including the RDNO cultural survey, a Downtown Vernon events survey, a member survey of Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce and a survey by the Visitor Information Centre. The results of these surveys demonstrated that Vernon is seen as a community with stunning natural surroundings, with the lakes as highlights. Most visitors engage in outdoor activities, usually at or near one of the lakes, and almost half visit downtown while in the city. The quality and number of different activities in combination with Vernon’s outdoor environment were the two largest factors in the research. The association of Vernon’s active lifestyle—for visitors and residents alike—naturally led to the new tagline, “Activate Life”.
The tagline will be incorporated into images showing the many amenities and attractions in Vernon, including cultural events, local food and drink, and outdoor activities for all four seasons.
“Vernon is a rare place, where it’s possible to go from mountain top to lakeside within 20 minutes—with world-class golf resorts, orchards, fine dining and unique shopping opportunities along the way,” said Glenn Benischek, Chair of the Economic Development Committee. “We hope that Vernon will embrace this brand, which is a great reflection of our city and the infinite possibilities here.”
