The 43rd Avenue Corridor Improvement Project is part of the City of Vernon's 2025 to 2029 Five-Year Rolling Infrastructure Plan and is designed to support the new Active Living Centre (ALC). The project includes building a roundabout at the intersection of 43rd Avenue, Alexis Park Drive, and Old Kamloops Road to manage the expected increase in traffic from the ALC. This roundabout will improve traffic flow and safety by allowing more vehicles to move through the area at lower speeds. The project also involves upgrading underground utilities such as sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and water mains where necessary. A new multi-use path will be constructed to connect the ALC with the city's active transportation network, with future extensions planned along 43rd Avenue to the west and Alexis Park Drive to the south.
The roundabout design is subject to change, and is being guided by Professional Engineers specializing in transportation engineering and design. The design will be finalized in the fall of 2025. An open house will be held in early 2026, and the public will be invited to meet the design team, ask questions, and provide feedback.
Construction work to renew some underground utilities is scheduled to begin in fall 2025. The primary phase of construction will commence in spring 2026, with construction completion anticipated by fall 2026.
