Building Permit Application

A Building Permit is required for the construction, alteration, repair, or addition to a building or structure. This includes new buildings, renovations, secondary suites, and structural changes. The permit ensures that all work complies with applicable building codes, bylaws, and safety standards, and helps protect the health and safety of occupants.

Note for Accessory Structures: A permit is required for any detached garage, carport, or shed over 10 m² (108 sq. ft.) in building footprint, or when changing the use of the building (e.g., converting it into a habitable living space).

How to Apply

You can submit your Building Permit application in one of the following ways:

- $150 (for Non-Complex)
- $250 (for Complex)
Complexity determined by BC Building Code Div A, Section 1.3.3

Please note: A security deposit is required in addition to the permit fee; the amount will be provided after review and refunded following final inspection.

- Online Payment Options:
  
  By Credit Card only (Visa, Mastercard, or American Express).
  
  A 2.4% surcharge applies to all credit card payments.
  
  Security deposits cannot be paid online.
- Application status can be tracked through your MyCity account
- Once your application is approved, the fee amount and payment instructions will be sent to you by email
- After payment is received, your permit will be issued and accessible through MyCity
- Inspections can be scheduled by calling 250-550-3592 or submitting a request using the online Building Inspection form
- After all required inspections are completed and approved, your Occupancy Permit will be emailed to you
