Campfire ban lifted in Vernon

News
Public Notice

As the weather begins to cool, residents in Vernon can once again enjoy small campfires on private property, starting at 12 p.m. (noon) today.

This change follows the BC Wildfire Service’s decision to lift the campfire ban in the Kamloops Fire Centre, which includes the City of Vernon.

If you're planning to light a campfire, please keep safety in mind and follow these important guidelines:

•    Campfires are only permitted on private property — not in public spaces like beaches or parks.
•    Never leave a fire unattended.
•    Fully extinguish your fire before leaving it.
•    Keep fires small and contained, away from buildings, sheds, dry grass, and other flammable materials.
•    Burn only dry, seasoned wood.
•    Be considerate of your neighbours — avoid dense smoke or unpleasant odours.
•    Always have water or a hand tool nearby while the fire is burning.
•    Ensure your campfire is no larger than 1.5 feet high by 1.5 feet wide, as recommended by BC Wildfire Service.

Let’s enjoy the season safely and responsibly — thank you for helping keep our community safe!
