Residents encouraged to prepare for more snow overnight, take care on the roads

News

Environment Canada has issued another snowfall warning and a set of highway alerts across the Okanagan, including Vernon.

As of 4:14 p.m. today (Wednesday), the weather forecaster announced 10 to 20 cm of new snow is possible across the region, especially in the high elevations. Snow is expected to begin falling late this evening and continue through Thursday.

If you must travel, motorists are reminded to slow down, drive to potentially changing road conditions, give yourself additional time to reach your destination, and look carefully for pedestrians and other travellers.

City crews continue to clear snow from roads and paths on a priority basis and are ready to respond to this new snow event.

Additionally, City crews are planning to remove snow from various locations across Vernon in the next few days. The removal of snow from the downtown core is expected to begin at night over the weekend and into Monday morning, as the weather and conditions permit. If you come across crews and heavy equipment while you're traveling, please be sure to slow down and obey all traffic control signage and personnel.

The City thanks everyone for their patience and understanding as we continue to navigate this winter season.
