City of Vernon awarded with “Level 3 – Accelerating Progress on Charter Commitments” by Climate Action Recognition Program

News

As a signatory, since 2008, to the British Columbia Climate Action Charter, the City of Vernon has been actively working to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and reporting the results to the provincial government. As the City has demonstrated significant corporate and community-wide climate actions to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for the 2016 reporting year, it has been awarded with Level 3 (Accelerating Progress on Charter Commitments) recognition as part of the Provincial-Union of British Columbia Municipalities Green Communities Committee (GCC) Climate Action Recognition Program for BC local governments.

As a participating municipality, the City of Vernon is committed to lowering GHG emissions, taking actions that demonstrate leadership on sustainable development, reporting annually on the City’s progress towards these goals and achieving carbon neutrality in corporate emissions.

"The City of Vernon is committed to working towards a sustainable future” states Mayor Akbal Mund. “Vernon continues to work with the Province and the Union of British Columbia Municipalities to take action on climate change and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in our community and corporate operations.”
