City Streamlines Development Process for Minor Variance Permits

News

The City of Vernon has updated the development approval process for minor variances.

Under the streamlined Delegated Minor Development Variance Permit (DVP) process, staff will have the ability to vary certain technical bylaw provisions, including construction on slopes exceeding 30 percent, lot width, site coverage, building heights, setbacks, landscaping, and signage.

Key highlights of the Delegated Minor DVP process include:

  • Simplified application and review procedures
  • Clear guidelines for eligibility and submission requirements
  • Expedited decision-making process

“The Delegated Minor DVP process marks a significant advancement in our efforts to foster efficient and responsible development in Vernon,” stated Terry Barton, Director, Planning & Community Services. “We are committed to providing residents and developers with a streamlined pathway that balances regulatory compliance with community needs.”

‘Minor’ Variance Criteria have been carefully established to evaluate proposed variances based on specific conditions, such as land configuration, topography, property dimensions, and legal restrictions.

Variances will be categorized as 'Minor' if they align with these criteria and do not compromise site development appropriateness, environmental impact, bylaw intent, or safety.
