Public Notice

In coordination with the BC Wildfire Service and the Kamloops Fire Centre, the City of Vernon is implementing a campfire ban effective Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. The ban will remain in place until Oct. 17 or until rescinded.

This measure is being enacted to help prevent human-caused wildfires and to protect public safety during anticipated extreme wildfire conditions. The decision aligns with a broader fire prohibition being put in place by the BC Wildfire Service across the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Prohibited activities include:

  • campfires of any size
  • fireworks and sky lanterns
  • burn barrels or burn cages
  • binary exploding targets
  • air curtain burners
  • tiki torches and similar devices

Devices that meet CSA or ULC standards and are designed for outdoor cooking, heating, or ambiance are permitted during the campfire ban. These devices must burn charcoal briquettes, liquid fuel, or gaseous fuel, and the flame height must not exceed 15 centimetres.

Wildfire prevention is a shared responsibility. To report a wildfire within the City of Vernon, call 911. To report a wildfire elsewhere, contact BC Wildfire Service at 1-800-663-5555 (toll-free) or *5555 from a mobile phone.

The City of Vernon thanks all residents and visitors for their cooperation and commitment to keeping our community safe.
