Deer Lake Park will get Firesmart
From 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on June 20 and 21, Vernon homeowners are invited to join Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) as well as firefighters and forest officials from the Vernon Fire Zone at Deer Lake Park (9192 Tronson Road) to learn about the FireSmart program and how to protect homes and neighbourhoods from wildfire.
In addition to helping homeowners understand what it takes to protect their property, the fire and forest crews will be removing combustible forest materials that can pose a risk to nearby homeowners. They will be trimming ladder fuels and removing dead underbrush, as well as cleaning up other debris in the park that could pose a fire risk. The debris will be placed in a wood/debris chipper and then removed by City crews.
The work now planned for it is for renovations including a play structure, improved universal access and repairs to the tennis and pickleball courts.
