Nomination Period open until Friday for 2022 General Local Election

The 2022 General Local Election is happening on Saturday, October 15. That is when eligible voters in Vernon will elect one (1) Mayor and six (6) City Councillors.

Potential candidates are reminded that Nomination Period ends this week, which means completed nomination packages must be submitted to the Chief Election Officer or the Deputy Chief Election Officer by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9.

Candidates are required to have a minimum of 10 qualified nominators to submit their package.

If you are interested in running for office in Vernon, but have not picked up a nomination package yet, they are still available for pick-up at City Hall (3400 30th Street) or for download on the City’s website at www.vernon.ca/elections.

To be eligible to run as a candidate, at the time of nomination a person must meet the following criteria. You are:

  • 18 years of age or older on the day of voting;
  • a Canadian citizen;
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least six months prior to voting day;
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act, or any other enactment, or by law from voting in a local election.
