The 2022 General Local Election is happening on Saturday, October 15. That is when eligible voters in Vernon will elect one (1) Mayor and six (6) City Councillors.
Nomination Period for the election opened today (Tuesday), which means candidates can now submit their completed nomination package to the Chief Election Officer or the Deputy Chief Election Officer. Candidates are required to have a minimum of 10 qualified nominators to submit their package.
If you are interested in running for office in Vernon, but have not picked up a nomination package yet, they are still available for pick-up at City Hall (3400 30th Street) or for download on the City’s website at www.vernon.ca/elections.
Nomination Period closes at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2022.
To be eligible to run as a candidate, at the time of nomination a person must meet the following criteria. You are:
- 18 years of age or older on the day of voting;
- a Canadian citizen;
- a resident of British Columbia for at least six months prior to voting day;
- not disqualified under the Local Government Act, or any other enactment, or by law from voting in a local election.
