The City of Vernon has lowered flags at City Hall and other facilities to half-mast following the tragedy at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Wainwright, Alberta, on October 17, 2026.
Additional locations with flags at half-mast include Fire Stations 1 and 2, Cenotaph Park, Pleasant Valley Cemetery, and Polson Park.
Flags will remain at half-mast until further notice as a mark of respect and remembrance. The City joins communities across Canada in acknowledging those affected by this event.
Our thoughts are with the families, friends, colleagues, and members of the Canadian Armed Forces community affected by this tragedy, as well as those recovering from injuries. The City of Vernon recognizes the service and commitment of Canadian Armed Forces personnel and extends its condolences to all those impacted.
