Community members are invited to take one final dip and celebrate decades of memories at the Last Splash, a free community event at the Vernon Aquatic Centre on Saturday, October 10, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
While the pool will remain open until October 30, Vernon Recreation staff wanted to create a special opportunity for the community to come together, share memories, and celebrate a facility that has been part of Vernon life for generations.
Celebrating a community landmark
For nearly six decades, the Vernon Aquatic Centre has been a place where residents learned to swim, stayed active, competed, connected with friends and family, and created lasting memories.
Originally opened in May 1966 as a six-lane, 25-metre pool, the facility was renovated and expanded in 1994 to include the aquatic amenities enjoyed by residents today. Over the years, it has welcomed generations of swimmers and played an important role in supporting recreation, fitness, and water safety in the community.
Join us for one final splash
The Last Splash event is an opportunity for community members to celebrate the Vernon Aquatic Centre, reconnect with friends and neighbours, and enjoy free swimming before the pool closes later this fall.
Residents of all ages are encouraged to attend and be part of this unique community celebration.
Looking ahead to the Active Living Centre
The Vernon Aquatic Centre is expected to remain open until October 30, 2026, at which time the Vernon Recreation team will begin preparing for the transition to the new Active Living Centre. Valid memberships, passes and punch cards will be accepted at the Active Living Centre, and memberships will be extended to account for any temporary service interruption during the transition.
The Active Living Centre will provide expanded opportunities for recreation, wellness, sport, and community connection, including a new aquatic centre, fitness spaces, gymnasiums, walking and running track, and flexible program areas.
