The City of Vernon Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) continues to monitor and provide support to the Bradley Creek Wildfire and evacuees. The fire is estimated at 2,603 hectares and remains Out of Control.
BC Wildfire Service has reported no significant growth on the fire since August 2, while crews, heavy equipment, aerial resources, and structure protection personnel continue their work in affected areas.
Although the wildfire remains active west of Vernon, there is currently no immediate threat to the City of Vernon.
Regional response efforts
Some of Vernon Fire Rescue Services crews are currently deployed to support wildfire response efforts in our region. Others remain on high alert within Vernon, continuing to monitor conditions and patrol high-risk areas to support community safety.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the volunteers, firefighters, emergency responders, and support personnel working long hours throughout this event. We are especially thankful for the efforts and leadership from our regional partners and supporting agencies responding to the wildfire.
Emergency Support Services
The Emergency Support Services (ESS) Reception Centre at Kal Tire Place remains open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to assist displaced residents.
Evacuees who require support with basic needs, such as shelter and food, can register for ESS in one of three ways:
- Visit the ESS Reception Centre at Kal Tire Place, 3445 43rd Avenue, Vernon
- Call the BC Evacuee Helpline at 1-800-387-4258 (Monday to Sunday, 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., including statutory holidays)
- Complete self-service registration online at ess.gov.bc.ca
Evacuees who can complete the registration process remotely do not need to attend the Reception Centre in person. ESS support is available by phone for those registering remotely.
To receive ESS supports through e-transfer, evacuees must have the BC Services Card App.
A 24/7 Public Information Line has been established for residents seeking general information related to the Bradley Creek Wildfire response. Residents can call 1-855-982-1400 for updates and assistance with general wildfire-related inquiries.
The City appreciates the many offers of support from residents looking to help those affected by the wildfire. At this time, the City of Vernon is not accepting donations.
How you can help and prepare: FireSmart practices
Conditions remain hot and dry across the region, and residents are encouraged to take steps to reduce wildfire risk around their homes by:
- Removing combustible materials from around structures
- Keeping firewood, propane tanks, and other flammable items away from buildings and trees
- Clearing dry grass, leaves, pine needles, and other debris from properties
- Maintaining defensible space around homes and structures
