This project is driven by the active transportation connections outlined in the Master Transportation plan. This is a growth related project that is part of the Transportation Development Cost Charge (DCC) program and funded partially by Transportation DCCs. In addition, the road surface and underground infrastructure assets are in poor condition and require replacement. This project includes reconstruction of approximately 475 metres of road, storm sewer, and sanitary sewer along Kalamalka Lake Road from 14th Avenue to Highway 6. Upgrades to sidewalks, and new multi-use paths, including a multi-use path connection along Highway 6 connecting to 18th Street, are all part of the scope of work. The new multi-use paths will connect the East Hill neighbourhood, Polson Centre, and the existing path to the south which leads to Kalamalka Lake Beach and the Rail Trail.
The City has applied for grants from the Federal Active Transportation program and Community Works Funding Strategic Priorities Fund. The complete scope of the work relied on receiving the Community Works Funding Strategic Priorities Fund. Work would be phased if the grants are not successful with focus on the active transportation and road safety items in 2026 and major road rehabilitation work in future years.
