Issued at 8:30 p.m.
The wildfire near Adventure Bay Road is now classified as Under Control, meaning crews have secured the perimeter and the fire is no longer expected to spread.
BC Wildfire Service has completed its response, and the Initial Attack crew has demobilized. Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) continues to oversee the area.
Two VFRS firefighters and equipment will remain on scene overnight to monitor conditions. Flare-ups are expected over the next few days, which is normal for a wildfire of this nature. A wet line has been established around the fire, and crews are cold trailing the area — digging into the burned zone to extinguish hot spots. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Smoke may still be visible from within the fire perimeter. If smoke is rising from well inside the blackened, burned area, it is generally not a concern. However, if smoke is coming from green, unburned vegetation or outside the fire perimeter, it should be reported immediately by calling 911.
The City of Vernon and Vernon Fire Rescue Services thanks the BC Wildfire Service, RCMP, and BX Swan Lake Fire Department for their assistance and coordination during this response.
