As Canada Day approaches, Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) is reminding residents and visitors that consumer fireworks and sky lanterns are not permitted within City of Vernon boundaries.
“With prolonged drought conditions we’re currently experiencing, it’s important that everyone stays vigilant and makes fire-safe choices,” said Deputy Fire Chief Brian Parsons. “We all have a role to play in helping reduce the risk of wildfires.”
There are many safe and fun alternatives to fireworks to help celebrate Canada Day, including:
- Hosting an outdoor movie night
- Using glow sticks or noise makers
- Lighting battery-powered flameless candles
- Enjoying a bylaw-compliant campfire where permitted
Please note: Using or storing fireworks without a permit may result in a fine of up to $300. Multiple fines can be issued for a single infraction.
The City appreciates the community doing their part to keep Vernon safe from fire risk.
