Kim Flick, Director of Community Development for the City of Vernon, has been named Director of Community Development, Engineering & GIS, effective immediately. This follows the amalgamation of the Community Development and Engineering & GIS Services divisions and is part of the City of Vernon’s ongoing mandate to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the overall organization.
“Given how closely Engineering & GIS and Community Development work together, it makes sense to amalgamate the two teams into a single division under a single director,” said Mayor Akbal Mund. “The director of this division needs to be a leader who can effectively communicate a clear purpose to the team and provide value to our residents and business partners. I have every confidence that Ms. Flick will lead the new, combined team to success.”
Mayor and Council have emphasized the importance of a development-friendly environment that welcomes investment within the principles and direction of the Official Community Plan and Neighbourhood Plans. The goal of this amalgamation is to better meet these development and community goals effectively and with improved efficiency.
“We evolve to address changes in our work environment, to reflect contemporary practices, the policy direction of Council and the expectations of our clients,” said Chief Administrative Officer Will Pearce. “This means we seek and implement the most cost efficient means to deliver the expected service levels.”
Mayor Mund thanked Ed Stranks for his time as Acting Director of Engineering & GIS Services since January.
“We all appreciate the hard work of Mr. Stranks in keeping things moving forward,” said Mayor Mund. “He will be a key to overall success in his continued role as Development Services Manager and new role as Deputy Approving Officer.”
