The City of Vernon would like to advise motorists that road closures will be in place tomorrow (Saturday) for the Vernon Winter Carnival Parade.
The parade staging areas will remain closed to all traffic from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm. The parade route will be closed to traffic from 11:30 am until 2:00 pm. (Please see map below.)
Drivers are encouraged to use Highway 97 (32nd Street) for north-south travel or use alternate routes if travelling downtown.
The staging area for the parade is 27th Street, between 39th Avenue and 43rd Avenue, as well as surrounding side streets.
The parade route starts at 12 Noon at 43rd Avenue and travels southbound on 27th Street, westbound on 30th Avenue, and northbound on 31st Street. Staff will be located at the intersection of 35th Avenue and 31st Street to let emergency vehicles cross.
Temporary changes for Vernon Regional Transit
Due to road closures around the downtown transit exchange, Routes 1 to 9 will not operate tomorrow between 9:45 am and 2:00 pm. However, these buses will operate on their normal schedules outside of those times.
Routes 60 and 90 will continue to operate during the parade road closures but with temporarily changed pick-up and drop-off zones. Transit riders should note the following:
- Route 90 will be doing pick-up/drop-off at the existing bus stop on 33rd St, between 32nd Ave and 33rd Ave
- Route 60 will be doing pick-up/drop off at existing bus stops on 33rd St, between the 3600 Block and 37th Ave
Further details are available on BC Transit’s website.
The City thanks everyone for their patience and wishes you a wonderful Winter Carnival!
