Do you have a local sustainability project underway, or are you thinking of starting one?
We have great news - the City of Vernon is accepting applications for 2020 Sustainability Grants until Monday, July 27!
“This is an exciting opportunity in Vernon,” said Christy Poirier, Manager, Communications & Grants. “The Sustainability Grant program is designed to encourage community participation in sustainable action - and that can look different for everyone. Maybe it’s the creation of a neighbourhood community garden, or the development of educational materials about conservation. Or maybe it’s a project to reduce energy use or greenhouse gas emissions. This is your chance to come up with something creative to help increase our community’s resilience to climate change.”
Small grants up to $1,000 are available as an incentive to accelerate sustainability projects led by Vernon residents, youth, non-profit organizations and community groups.
Applications will be reviewed after the July 27 deadline, and recommendations will be made to City Council. Applications will be evaluated on how the proposed projects help achieve the City’s sustainability goals, who the project would benefit, and the overall impact of the project on the community. Selected grant recipients will be announced after August 17, 2020 and will have until June 2021 to complete their projects.
The City’s sustainability goals include ecosystem and ecological conservation, energy conservation and greenhouse gas emissions reduction, local food and agriculture, water quality protection and conservation, stewardship and sustainability.
