The City of Vernon has activated its Emergency Operations Centre in response to the White Rock Lake fire that is burning west of Okanagan Lake. The City is in close and regular contact with BC Wildfire Service regarding the fire's activity and potential impacts within the municipal boundary, and is operating an ESS Reception Centre to welcome and assist residents who have been evacuated and are seeking service referrals for basic needs.
As the wildfire situation continues to evolve in the North Okanagan, the City of Vernon has received several requests for information about how to better prepare for the possibility of an emergency, and what steps to take if an Evacuation Alert or Evacuation Order is issued. These are important questions for all residents and visitors to consider, regardless of where they are located in the region.
