The City of Vernon is advising motorists to use caution due to icy road conditions. Wet roads combined with early morning freezing temperatures have resulted in icy conditions over the last few days.
City crews have been using a combination of sand, salt and liquid de-icer to address the issue however, the timing of the freeze has resulted in challenging conditions.
Over the last few days, temperatures have dropped below freezing between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. turning the wet roads in our area to ice within minutes. Normal response times for City crews to sand and salt all main routes within the City is approximately 6 hours. This has resulted in icy conditions until mid- to late-morning.
Temperatures are expected to rise over the next few days which should help alleviate this issue on the short term; however, motorists are still advised to use caution.
