In an effort to assist our local service providers in serving those in need, the City of Vernon initiated a ‘Kindness Meter’ program in 2016. The premise was to install identifiable meters in the downtown core to allow citizens the opportunity to donate their spare change to a group serving the disadvantaged or homeless, rather than giving directly to an individual panhandler.
We are pleased to advise that in 2017, the generous citizens and visitors to our City have donated a total of $1,798.68. The proceeds were donated by Mayor Mund to the Upper Room Mission on Tuesday, December 19th, 2017.
