During Monday’s Regular Meeting of Council, Council approved amendments to the City’s Animal Regulation and Animal Pound bylaw in response to community requests, specifically regarding the keeping of urban hens and mini pigs. The amendments allow for up to four hens (increased from three hens) on residential properties that meet the requirements of the bylaw, and allow for the addition of mini pigs as companion animals in Vernon.
In order to address concerns regarding the keeping of pigs, a full licensing process and regulatory scheme dealing with potential nuisance concerns was adopted. Anyone keeping a mini pig is encouraged to contact the City’s Bylaw Department by calling 250-550-3505 to find out about the requirements of the bylaw.
