Great Vernon Recreation Centre is reminding participants and visitors to use the west entrance to the building during construction of the bridge and front entrance. The Halina Centre parking lot located off of 35 Avenue and the curling rink parking lot located off 39 Avenue are also available for parking. Parking is also still available in front of the Recreation Centre and Performing Arts Centre, and visitors can follow the signs leading to the west entrance.
“It can be a bit of an extra hike around to the alternate entrance, but we are glad that people have been very supportive of the project and walking the extra distance”, said Doug Ross, Director of Recreation Services. “We are really pleased that our numbers for the pool and other programs and events in the centre have remained strong.”
The renovation project includes a new bridge at the main entrance, improved accessibility to the centre and an expanded lobby. Additionally, a new outside people space and healthy-choices food kiosk are anticipated to be completed by Spring 2016.
There are two upcoming events taking place at the Rec Centre:
The Recreation Centre auditorium is an advance polling location and main polling station for the upcoming federal election. Advance polls are being held Friday to Monday, October 9-12. Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. each day. Election Day is Monday, October 19.
The annual Vernon Ski Swap will be held on Friday, October 16, from 3:30 – 7 p.m. for consignments and from 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, October 17, for the sale.
