The City of Vernon is investing in the renewal and maintenance of the Vernon Downtown Parkade, with construction beginning Monday, August 17.
As part of the project, crews will complete repairs and maintenance to extend the life of the parkade and ensure it continues to serve residents, visitors and downtown businesses for years to come.
Work will include concrete and stairwell repairs and waterproofing. These improvements will address areas of deterioration and reduce the potential for more costly repairs in the future.
Parkade to remain open during construction.
The Vernon Parkade will remain open throughout construction, with sections of the parking area temporarily closed as work progresses. Construction will be completed in phases to maintain parking and access wherever possible.
Users can expect temporary parking and access restrictions in active work areas, along with construction noise, dust and equipment activity. One stairwell will be closed at a time, while the other will remain open. The elevator will remain available throughout construction.
Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use caution around the parkade, follow posted signage and traffic controls, and watch for construction activity while work is underway.
Regular construction hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. Some work may also take place on weekends when the parkade is closed to regular operations to help minimize disruption.
The City and its contractor will work to minimize impacts on parkade users, nearby businesses and the surrounding area throughout the project. The City appreciates the patience, cooperation and understanding of parkade users and the surrounding community while this work is underway.
Construction is expected to continue through fall 2026.
The project is funded through the Growing Communities Fund, Casino Fund and Infrastructure Reserve.
