Homeowners in Vernon now have access to personalized support to make their homes more energy-efficient and comfortable, thanks to a new partnership between the City of Vernon and the B.C.-based non-profit Community Energy Association (CEA).
The Retrofit Assist program is now available to residents within the City of Vernon. This innovative service provides personalized, impartial guidance on home energy improvements, connecting residents with trusted local professionals and ensuring they can access the latest available rebates and financial incentives. The program has already supported hundreds of homeowners across the province in making cost-effective upgrades.
Retrofit Assist is designed to simplify the process of home retrofits—particularly for those planning renovations, replacing aging systems like furnaces, or considering general energy upgrades but unsure where to begin. The City of Vernon sees this initiative as a key tool in supporting residents on their journey toward more sustainable living.
This new program aligns with Vernon’s Climate Action Plan, which sets a long-term goal for all existing buildings to become energy efficient, utilize zero-carbon energy systems, and be resilient to climate change impacts by 2050. Providing dedicated support to homeowners is an important step toward achieving that vision.
Participants will get one-to-one guidance from the Retrofit Assist team who will guide them through the process of purchasing an Energuide evaluation of their home's energy usage. They will also be linked with local contractors who can do the recommended work and meet all the requirements needed to access rebates.
In addition to supporting homeowners, CEA collaborates with the local construction industry to ensure contractors have access to training and professional development. This dual focus not only improves the retrofit experience for residents but also supports local economic development.
