The City of Vernon and Downtown Vernon will be hosting a free barbecue on Thursday, August 10 to celebrate the city’s 125th birthday. City councillors will be working the grill and handing out birthday cake from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Civic Plaza in front of City Hall. Civic Sounds, featuring the Shawn Lightfoot Band, will follow from 7 – 9 p.m.
“To me, celebrating Vernon’s 125th birthday is a way of recognizing that we live in a special place, with a special history, that has evolved over time into a tremendous, family friendly city,” said Vernon Councillor Catherine Lord, who is helping to organize the event. “I love this town, with its mountains, parks, lakes—and most of all, its generous people.”
