The City of Vernon is advising residents and local businesses that construction is scheduled to begin March 16, 2026 on 15th Street between Highway 6 and 15th Avenue. The work will complete utility service upgrades required for the development at 1601 15th Street and will support growth in the area while improving infrastructure and active transportation options.
Upgrades to the area include:
- Utility upgrades including watermain, storm, and sanitary services.
- Installation of traffic signals at the intersection of 15th Street and 14th Avenue.
- Construction of a multi-use path along 15th Street.
This work is being carried out and funded by the developer. Construction is expected to continue through August 31, 2026, weather and other conditions permitting.
What to expect during construction:
- Northbound traffic on 15th Street between Highway 6 and 15th Avenue will be closed during construction.
- Northbound motorists will be detoured via Highway 6 and Pottery Road to access areas beyond the work zone.
- Southbound traffic on 15th Street between 15th Avenue and Highway 6 will remain open.
- Access to residences and businesses on 14th Avenue will remain open.
- Emergency vehicles will maintain access through the area.
