UPDATE: Water main break on Highway 97 near Vernon Jubilee Hospital

Road Update

At approximately 10:00 p.m. on April 26, a water main break occurred on Highway 97 near the entrance to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital (21st Avenue).

The water main break was repaired overnight and City crews have begun assessing and repairing the damage to the road.

During the incident, a large volume of water caused significant damage to a portion of the northbound lane between 21st Avenue and Highway 6, requiring repairs to the road structure and pavement surface.

The majority of works are estimated to be complete by the end of this week.

While construction is taking place, northbound traffic will be partially rerouted to the southbound side of the highway, reducing traffic to single lane in both directions.

Traffic control measures are in place and the City asks all motorists to slow down, obey all traffic control devices and personnel, and to give themselves additional time to reach their destination. If possible, the City recommends using an alternative travel route.

Access to the hospital remains available by turning east on to 18th Avenue and then north on to 31A or 31st Street.

Every effort will be made to minimize traffic disruptions. The City thanks everyone for their patience and understanding while this work is being completed.
