UPDATE: During the evening of April 26, a water main break near 21st Avenue caused significant damage to the roadway of Highway 97 (on the northbound side of Hospital Hill). Traffic flow on the highway has been temporarily reduced while the site is being assessed and repairs are made between 21st Avenue and the intersection of 25th Avenue and Highway 6. Due to this unexpected incident, the utility installation planned for 34th Avenue will be rescheduled to mitigate additional traffic flow impacts on Highway 97. The City appreciates the public's patience and understanding while these projects are being completed. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
The City would like to advise the public that a small road closure and detour will be required for the installation of underground utility services on 34th Street later this week.
Starting at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 29, the 2400 block of 34th Street will be closed to through traffic. The detour will require southbound traffic to use a portion of Highway 97 (32nd Street) to detour back on to 34th Street toward Mission Road and the Commonage. The work is expected to be complete by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 30.
Signage will be in place to direct motorists and traffic control personnel will be on site to guide pedestrians through the construction site. The City apologizes for any inconvenience this disruption may cause and appreciates everyone’s understanding while this work is being completed.
