The City of Vernon would like to advise motorists of two events tonight (January 29) that may impact travel in portions of the city.

Between 9:00 pm and midnight tonight, BC Hydro will be conducting a planned power outage in order to complete an electrical service upgrade.

The power outage will affect the round-a-bout located on 30th Avenue near the Schubert Center, as well as nearby street lights and the pedestrian crosswalk lights. It will also affect the street lights on 30th Avenue between 33rd Street and 35th Street and the traffic signals located at the intersection of 30th Avenue and 34th Street.

Motorists are reminded that if intersection lights are flashing or black, the intersection must be treated as a four-way stop, as per the Motor Vehicle Act of British Columbia.

On the other side of town, City crews will also be picking up and hauling snow from 27th Street, between Hwy 6 and 48th Avenue, in order to increase snow storage and improve driving lane conditions. The work will begin around midnight.

If you come across heavy equipment, please slow down and obey all traffic control devices. And if possible, please avoid this area overnight.

The City appreciates your patience while crews work through these projects tonight.
