The City would like to advise the public that traffic has been reduced to single lane in both directions along the Hospital Hill portion of Highway 97 (between 18th Avenue and the intersection of 25th Avenue and Highway 6).
A water main break occurred near the turnoff to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital around 10:00 p.m. on April 26, which was repaired overnight. During the event, the roadway experienced significant damage, causing a closure of the northbound lanes.
Traffic control personnel and materials are on scene, directing traffic onto the southbound side of the highway.
To access the Vernon Jubilee Hospital, motorists are asked turn east onto 18th Avenue and then north on to 31A or 31st Street. Motorists are asked to obey all traffic control measures and to avoid traveling through the construction zone for the safety of workers and the public.
City crews are assessing the site and additional traffic control measures will be put in place later today. More information and updates will be provided as they become available.
The City thanks everyone for their patience and understanding while assessments are being completed and repairs get underway.
