Starting Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 7:00 a.m., construction of the new roundabout at Silver Star Road and Phoenix Drive will begin. Road closures will go into effect on April 23 and residents who typically use Phoenix Drive will be detoured through Foothills Drive.
Construction hours are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work if required.
What to expect:
- Temporary detour: Silver Star Road will remain open to through traffic. Access will be facilitated using bypass roads, detours and single-lane alternating traffic patterns during the course of construction. Follow posted detours and the direction of traffic control personnel.
- Road conditions: Uneven surfaces and gravel sections are expected due to ongoing road reconstruction. Drive with caution through the work area.
- Speed limits: Speeds will be reduced during construction, especially in neighbourhoods along detour routes.
What the Project Includes:
The Silver Star Roundabout project involves several key upgrades.
- Road reconstruction: The rebuilding of the road base to ensure long-term durability.
- Sidewalks and curbs: New sidewalks and curbs will enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility.
- Street lighting: Improved lighting, including pedestrian crossing flashers, will be installed for better visibility and safety.
- Drainage upgrades: Enhanced drainage systems will be implemented to manage water flow effectively.
The $1.9-million improvements aim to support the growing needs of the Upper Foothills and adjacent developments while ensuring a safer and more efficient transportation network. Completion of the project is scheduled for the fall.
The City also reminds pedestrians and drivers that road safety is a shared responsibility. Pedestrians should always use crosswalks, follow traffic signals, and wear reflective clothing, especially in low-light conditions. Drivers should remain aware of their surroundings, yield to pedestrians, and adhere to speed limits.
