The City of Vernon is advising drivers and Vernon Regional Transit System riders to be aware of road closures impacting travel for the Vernon Winter Carnival Parade on Saturday, February 2. Roads will be closed within the area west of 25th Street, north of 29th Avenue, east of 32nd Street, and south of 43rd Avenue from 8:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. RCMP volunteers will be operating road closure barricades to allow emergency vehicle access if needed.
Drivers are encouraged to use Hwy 97 (32nd Street) for north-south travel or use alternate routes if travelling downtown.
Transit riders are advised that from approximately 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 will not be operational. Route 60 will pick up and drop off passengers on 33rd Street (behind Staples). Route 90 will drop off passengers at the same location on 33rd Street (behind Staples) when it arrives in Vernon at 11:55 a.m. For more information on expected transit service disruptions on February 2, visit bctransit.com/Vernon or call 250-545-7221.
