Reminder: Fireworks Prohibited Within City of Vernon

Public Notice

As we make plans for a fun and safe weekend of Halloween fun, Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) is reminding residents that the use of consumer fireworks and sky lanterns is not permitted within the City of Vernon boundaries.

"Consumer fireworks can come with some serious risk, including the potential for personal injury and fires.” said Fire Chief David Lind. “Fireworks cause thousands of injuries every year in Canada, and too often, property damage as well. By following the prohibition on fireworks, we’re helping to keep our community safe and avoiding preventable accidents."

There are safe alternatives to fireworks that residents may want to consider such as: an outdoor movie night; glow sticks; battery powered flameless candles; a bylaw compliant campfire; or noise makers.

The use or storage of fireworks without a permit may result in a fine of up to $300 and multiple fines may be issued for a single infraction. Fire Prevention and Bylaw Enforcement will be monitoring Vernon neighbourhoods to ensure bylaw compliance.

Thank you for keeping Vernon safe. Happy Halloween!
