Rec Centre main entrance available for Creative Chaos

News

Greater Vernon Recreation Services is working with Creative Chaos organizers and Maddocks Construction to ensure the main bridge and east entrance to the recreation centre will be in place and accessible for Creative Chaos from June 5 to 7.

Originally, the bridge and entrance were planned to be under construction beginning May 25. However, project delays will allow user groups to use the main bridge and east entrance during Creative Chaos, which is celebrating its 40th Anniversary at the recreation centre.

“People will still be able to come and go across the bridge and through the lobby as in other years” said Doug Ross, Director of Recreation Services. “Some areas at the front of the building and in the main parking lot will be fenced off as part of the project construction site. The project will not affect any of the display areas.”

One change this year is that Halina and Priest Valley parking lots off of 35 Avenue will be open for public parking. Vendor parking will be moved to the parking lot south of the Boys & Girls Club Gym and the vacant lots along 35 Avenue. This will make the event more accessible for the public and help to best utilize the vacant lots along 35 Avenue.

The recreation centre is undergoing extensive renovations over the next 12 to 18 months. The renovation focuses on upgrading the lobby entry to the facility, while introducing a new food kiosk, upgrading the finishes and general functioning of entrance spaces to achieve a welcoming environment. All access points will feature new double wide sliding doors to provide improved mobility impaired access as well as better overall management of people flow. In addition to improving accessibility, these changes will also improve temperature control and energy efficiency.
