The City of Vernon is advising prospective candidates that nomination packages for the 2026 General Municipal Election are now available and can be picked up at City Hall beginning Monday, July 20 at 8:30 a.m.
Individuals interested in running for the office of Mayor or Councillor can obtain a nomination package from Vernon City Hall during regular business hours or online by visiting the City's website. The package contains important information about candidate eligibility, the nomination process, and key dates.
To help prospective candidates better understand the election process and the responsibilities of an elected official, the City is offering two optional Candidate Information Sessions:
- Thursday, July 23, 2026
- Tuesday, July 28, 2026
Time: 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Location: City Hall Council Chamber, 3400 30 Street
The sessions are open to anyone considering running for office and will provide an overview of the nomination process, the role of local elected officials, and an opportunity to ask questions.
The nomination period opens on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, and closes at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026.
General Voting Day will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2026, with advance voting opportunities on Wednesday, October 7 and Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
