The City of Vernon will begin construction of a new crosswalk on Silver Star Road next week, located between Cunningham Road and McDonald Road.
This crosswalk will improve safety for people walking and cycling, and provide better access to the shared pathway along Silver Star Road. The pathway connects to the Foothills and Vernon’s active transportation network.
The crosswalk will include:
- A pedestrian refuge island in the centre of the road, allowing people to cross one direction at a time
- Flashing lights to alert drivers when someone is crossing
The project will also include a new pathway on the north side of the road, improving connections for people walking, cycling, and using mobility aids between Cunningham Road and McDonald Road.
Construction timeline:
- Work begins March 30, 2026
- Completion is expected by May 15, 2026
What to expect during construction:
- Single-lane alternating traffic will be in place
- Short delays may occur
- Traffic will be directed by signage and crew members
- Emergency vehicles will be accommodated at all times
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, follow all posted signage, and use caution when travelling through the area. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as this work occurs.
