Kin Racetrack lawsuit resolved

The City of Vernon has been advised by the lawyer for the Okanagan Equestrian Society (OES) and the Vernon Jockey Club Limited Liability (VJC) that they are abandoning their appeal of the 2018 decision of the BC Supreme Court which dismissed their claims against the City of Vernon and the Regional District of North Okanagan.

This means that the claims of the OES and VJC with respect to land at Kin Park have ended. The RDNO, in the 2014 Parks Agreement, has agreed to transfer ownership of their portion of the land to the City of Vernon, and this will be facilitated.

“We are very pleased to hear the official outcome of this lengthy court case,” said Victor Cumming, Mayor of Vernon. “We can now begin the process of engaging the public for ideas on the future use of this land, which is zoned for recreational uses. Our goal will be to determine a use for the land that provides benefit to a wide range of citizens.”
