Firefighters Responding to Structure Fire on Highway 97 in Vernon

Vernon firefighters were called to the scene of a structure fire just off Highway 97 Tuesday afternoon. 

At approximately 5:00 p.m., Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) was dispatched to a report of a structure fire in the 4200-block of 32nd Street. Upon arrival, crews confirmed a fire on the second floor of a motel. 

Crews quickly action the fire, however, the second floor of the structure sustained heavy damage.

The event is still unfolding. Residents and visitors are asked to avoid the area if possible to allow crews to continue emergency response efforts. 

A number of people have been displaced as a result of the fire. The City of Vernon Emergency Support Services (ESS) program is providing assistance to temporarily displaced residents. At this time, there are no reports of injuries. 

BCEHS, RCMP, FortisBC and BC Hydro also attended.
