The City of Vernon is advising residents and motorists of upcoming drainage infrastructure improvements at several locations throughout the Eastside Road area, with construction scheduled to begin on October 5, 2026 and continue through to the third week of October.
The work is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to improve drainage during heavy rain and snowmelt and maintain important drainage infrastructure through preventative stream crossing maintenance.
Work scheduled for October includes:
- Eastside Road culvert replacement
- Sunset culvert replacement
- Smith Road grading
What to expect during construction
During construction, residents and motorists may experience temporary impacts including single-lane alternating traffic, noise, dust, vibration, and increased movement of construction crews and equipment.
Work will take place weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and access to private driveways will be maintained. Brief interruptions may be required to accommodate the movement of crews and equipment.
Motorists are reminded to watch for construction signage, follow the directions of traffic control personnel, and use caution when travelling through active work areas. Local signage will provide the most up-to-date information regarding traffic impacts. A map of the work area is included below.
The City appreciates the patience and understanding of residents and motorists while this important infrastructure work is completed.
