To support worker safety during periods of hot weather, construction crews working on major City of Vernon projects may begin work earlier than regular hours when forecasted temperatures are expected to exceed 30 degrees Celsius.
Projects that may be impacted include the construction of the Active Living Centre and the 43rd Avenue reconstruction project adjacent to the Active Living Centre site.
An early start variance has been approved to allow crews to start work beginning at approximately 6:30 a.m.
The variance is ongoing and may be used when weather conditions meet the temperature threshold. As forecasts can change, residents are encouraged to expect that construction activity may begin earlier on days when hot weather is anticipated.
Adjusting work hours helps reduce the risk of heat-related illness for construction crews while allowing important infrastructure projects to continue safely and efficiently.
