Beginning next week, the City of Vernon will begin upgrading key drainage infrastructure on Smith Road, Eastside Road, and Kokanee Road. This work is part of the City’s Priority Drainage Improvements Project, aimed at modernizing aging infrastructure and improving stormwater management in high-priority areas.
Construction is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, and is expected to continue through November 2025, weather permitting. Work hours will be Monday to Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with occasional weekend work if necessary.
The project includes:
- ditching and stormwater upgrades on Eastside Road to improve surface water flow and reduce erosion
- new storm mains and ditching upgrades to manage subsurface drainage and peak flows on Smith Road
- ditching improvements to better manage runoff and enhance roadside stability on Kokanee Road
During construction, Smith Road will be subject to periodic closures and a single-lane alternating traffic pattern will be in effect on Eastside and Kokanee Roads with detour routes in effect.
All motorists and pedestrians are asked to follow posted signage and directions of traffic control to ensure safety throughout the work zone.
