As construction season gets underway, the City of Vernon is moving forward with two projects to improve essential underground utilities and roadways in Vernon’s core. Motorists should expect some delays beginning May 21 and continuing through mid-June in affected areas.
32 Avenue emergency utility infrastructure repair
Starting Thursday, May 21 at 6:30 a.m., crews will complete an emergency sanitary utility infrastructure repair near 27 Street and 32 Avenue. During the work, a portion of 27 Street will be reduced to single-lane traffic in both directions, while 32 Avenue will be closed between 25 Street and 28 Street. Work is expected to be completed by 6:00 p.m. the same day, subject to weather and other factors.

31 Street utility upgrades and road resurfacing
Beginning Sunday, May 24, a larger utility renewal project will begin along 31 Street between 31 Avenue and 33 Avenue, including the lane west toward 32 Street. Crews will be upgrading storm and sanitary infrastructure while also preparing the roadway for resurfacing improvements.
Construction on 31 Street will move block by block north toward 33 Avenue, with work taking place daily between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Underground infrastructure work is expected to continue through Friday, June 12, subject to weather and other factors. The intersection at 31 Street and 32 Avenue will remain open whenever possible; however, a full closure of the intersection will be required from June 1 to June 3.
Local traffic will continue to have access to nearby businesses and residences throughout construction. Roads will be closed in sections as work progresses, and motorists should plan for delays and allow extra travel time.
These projects are an important investment in maintaining reliable infrastructure and improving road conditions for the community. Please obey all traffic control signage and reduce speed when travelling through work zones to help keep crews and the public safe.
